The Delta is a huge estuary environment fed by the waters of the mighty Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers. This forms one of the largest estuaries on the West Coast of the Americas. The Delta is easily accessed from outlying metropolitan areas within an hour or two drive. This vast estuary boasts over 1,000 miles of interconnected navigable waterways. These waterways consist of flooded islands (lakes), tributary rivers, peat islands, bays and sloughs. Wildlife is diverse in the Delta. Aquatic mammals such as Otter, Beaver, Muskrat are seen regularly. One might even sight a Mink rock hopping along the Delta's banks. Wild Coyote inhabit many Delta islands. On occasion you can hear them howling in chorus on a moonlit evening. The abundance of bird life is astounding. Duck, Geese, Heron, Birds of Prey and many other species make the Delta their home. You might hear a Pheasant while loading up your next cast.. the Delta!
